Baltimore needs more light, less friction

The idea of lighting up a city is nothing new. It's been taking place all over the world, and now for the second time Light City is happening here in Baltimore ("Light City Baltimore creators in the dark about festival trademarks," March 29). I was a volunteer last year, and this year I'm an organizer at my condo building.

It infuriates me the way this wonderful festival is mired in ugliness and conflict. But that's how things are in Baltimore, and I'm sick of it. I've never seen a place where no one will cooperate or work together.

Whatever the legal ramifications may be with Brooke and Justin Allen and Baltimore, this should have been ironed out long ago. Now, both parties are at each other's throats. To fight over the name, Light City, is childish. The Allens should have been delighted with their achievement. Instead, they now have an ugly blot on their reputation.

Wouldn't it be nice if folks here in Baltimore tried cooperation for a change? It seems like everywhere you look someone is spoiling for a fight!
