The Baltimore-owned Hilton Hotel has for the ninth year in a row shown a loss ("Baltimore-owned Hilton hotel posts losses — again," June 7). This year, it was $5.5 million. And Mayor Catherine Pugh is seeking to refinance the debt.

It seems clear to me that the city should not be in the hotel business. I think it is time for the city to sell. The city has lost over $50 million on the Hilton. Any other business would have cut their losses and gone out of business by now. The money that this albatross has sucked from the city would be better spent on youth programs to keep kids safe.

Fifty million would have done a better job serving the community. Maybe the hotel would show a profit if it were in the right professional hands, not a government agency which is prone to waste and abuse. And it would still provide jobs. Personally, I resent my tax money going into this black hole.
