There are myriad reasons why the Baltimore Grand Prix should be given the "one and done" treatment ("Grand Prix deal shaky," Nov. 8).
Open car racing has inherent dangers. If a car should flip, the driver is relatively defenseless. Great measures were taken to reconfigure Baltimore streets, inconveniencing many downtown workers. Trees were uprooted, and some were probably removed that didn't need to be. Were they all replaced, as promised by the promoters?
Don't even get me started about the detrimental environmental effects to the already-tainted Baltimore air quality (none of these cars are battery-powered).
Now there is pressure by the city to have all debts paid before year's end or the Baltimore Grand Prix will have crossed the finish line permanently. I, for one, will certainly not be disappointed should that occur.
