The Baltimore Development Corp. on Wednesday said it has extended the deadline for developers to submit proposals to take over and repurpose four properties in downtown.
The agency in April issued a request for proposals for the three buildings at 17, 19 and 23 S. Gay St. and a parking lot at 10 S. Frederick St., representing about 16,481 square feet. An information session was held last month, but the civil unrest and the annual International Council of Shopping Centers conference in Las Vegas overshadowed the offering, said BDC executive vice president Kimberly A. Clark.
Bids are now due Aug. 21, a month later than planned.
The city purchased the three Gay Street properties in 1995 for $6 million, according to land records. Today the buildings, constructed around 1906, are vacant, and along with the parking lot, worth about $1.5 million, according to the request for proposals.
The parcels, located close to Power Plant Live, are zoned for commercial use. The city, which once used the properties for collateral on a bond, said it will give preference to firms willing to tackle all four properties, with a plan to encourage foot traffic and activity at the street level.
