Volunteering in Anne Arundel

Volunteer guide

The Volunteer Center has a Holiday Volunteer Guide listing volunteer opportunities through December. Captain Avery Museum

Volunteers are needed to serve as docents and escort visitors through the museum from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays and at special functions. On occasion, they would be dressed in a costume typical of the 1860s. Training is provided. Information: 410-867-4486.

Chesapeake Arts Center

Volunteers, ages 16 and older, are needed to serve as ushers and at the box office for performances at the Hammonds Lane and/or Studio 194 theaters. Volunteers are also needed to help in the gift shop, with mailings and other activities. Information: chesapeakearts.org or 410-636-6597.

Hospice drivers

Hospice of the Chesapeake seeks volunteers with four-wheel-drive vehicles to assist patients and staff with transportation during inclement weather. Information: 443-837-1549 or 800-745-6132.

Jug Bay Wetlands

Volunteers, children and adults, are needed to collect water samples, clear trails, weigh turtles, guide visitors on nature walks, draw maps, lead canoe trips, make posters, seine for fish, host at the visitor center on weekends and more. Medical center

Anne Arundel Medical Center needs volunteers 18 and older for day and evening hours, weekdays and weekends. Positions include patient interaction, customer service and retail assistance. Information: 443-481-5050.

Social Services

Volunteers are needed through December for the Department of Social Services' Holiday Sharing program, which matches donors to seniors and/or families in need of Thanksgiving and Christmas assistance.Duties include answering and making phone calls and entering families' wish lists.
