London Town

This Edgewater site seeks persons interested in history and/or horticulture to become docents, historic interpreters and gardeners. Volunteers give site tours, house tours or demonstrate Colonial crafts and daily life. They may also work in historic or ornamental gardens. Information: 410-222-1919, ext. 206. Tawes Garden & Shop

Volunteers are needed to help with a variety of gardening tasks, including planting, watering, weeding and mulching. Also needed are tour guides to assist the teacher-naturalist with large groups. Year-round programs need chaperons for field trips as well as assistants for nature programs. Shopkeepers are needed for two-hour shifts on a weekly or semimonthly basis in the gift shop at the Maryland Department of Natural Resources in Annapolis. Historic Annapolis

Volunteers are needed in the areas of museum tours and education, horticulture in the William Paca House gardens, public programs and special events, membership services, and marketing. Hospice services

Heartland Hospice, a facility that provides care to patients with limited life expectancy, seeks volunteers 18 and older with a driver's license as friendly visitors to look in on patients in their homes or nursing homes, to serve as vigil volunteers, to sit with patients without immediate family and as bereavement volunteers to call on families of those recently deceased. Light House Shelter

Volunteers 18 and older are needed for duties associated with the food program, children's program, cleaning and maintenance, office and administration, adult education programs and the overnight homeless program. Pro bono professionals are needed to serve the shelter and its clients with skills such as accounting, medicine, law and carpentry. Hours are flexible, and training is provided.
