Archaeology
The county's archaeology lab facility, located atHistoric London Town and Gardens, 839 Londontown Road in Edgewater, needs volunteers and interns to help process artifacts, including washing, labeling, analyzing, conserving and cataloging. The laboratory is offering extended hours for the winter and is open to volunteers until 8 p.m. on Wednesdays. No experience is needed. RSVPs are required to pzgoll33@aacounty.org by the Tuesday before due to limited space. Children younger than 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
Literacy Council
Tutors are needed for ESL tutoring and to combat adult illiteracy. After completing training, volunteers arrange their own schedules and locations with the assigned student or can tutor at local detention centers. Information: 410-269-4419 or icanread.org.
The Arc
Volunteers are needed to serve on the board of directors, help with fundraising, assist in the office, and to help with special events. Volunteers 16 and older are also needed as gardening assistants at the Arc's sensory garden in Annapolis, including plant care, patio maintenance, planting trees and shrubs, and to help with yard maintenance at 30 homes the Arc manages throughout the county. for more information, contact Angie DeMorland at 410-268-8085, 410-269-1883 or e-mail ademoreland@thearcccr.org.
Meals on Wheels
Drivers are needed to deliver meals from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Volunteers are also needed to accompany drivers, schedule routesor make birthday or other greeting cards to be delivered with meals. Many new volunteer opportunities, including those related to home assessments, pet food donations, providing companionship, grocery shopping assistance and phone pal contacts, are available.
