The county health department has begun its raccoon oral rabies vaccination project to immunize thousands of wild raccoons by placing approximately 85,000 rabies vaccine baits throughout the county. Trained bait teams, wearing shirts with the Department of Health logo, will place the bait in likely raccoon habitats. In addition, a county police helicopter, flying at low altitudes, will be used to distribute bait in less-populated areas.
