Parker, the daughter of David and Lisa Parker of Davidsonville, won the Annapolis Rotary Club's local contest and then won the semiregional in Glen Burnie in April before advancing to the district level. She received a scholarship and a certificate. Her speech had to incorporate the Rotary Four-Way Test, an ethical guide Rotarians use in personal and professional relationships.

MGT surveys parents on school facilities

As it nears the end of its new school facilities study, MGT of America is conducting a second public survey to gather community input on Anne Arundel County public schools.

Officials say the $313,667 contract signed this year between MGT and the school system will result in a new blueprint for renovation and construction over the coming decade. The survey is designed to gauge residents' needs on school facilities and programs, preferences on the size of schools, and opinions about equity among school offerings. The surveys can be found on the school system website, aacps.org.

MGT previously held public meetings in March and May. The company will compile the information from both surveys and use it in the preparation of a report to the school system. MGT, which conducted a similar study in 2006, will use some of the documentation from that effort as well as new information gleaned from this initiative.

The contract calls for MGT to submit a report in time to shape decisions for the fiscal year 2017 capital budget, which will be presented to the Board of Education in September. The report is scheduled to be delivered in August.
