'Jolly Express Cruises'

Historic Annapolis hosts evening cruises on Spa Creek Friday-Sunday, Dec. 26-28. Event includes hot cocoa and holiday music. Departure times from the Annapolis City Dock are 6 p.m., 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tickets are $23, $13 for children younger than 12. Free parking

Two hours of free parking are available to Annapolis shoppers at all two-hour metered parking spots through Jan. 1. Spaces on Main Street, Francis Street, West Street, Maryland Avenue, Prince George Street, City Dock and Market Space are available. Motorists are not allowed to leave their cars in one spot all day.

Winter lecture series

The Annapolis Maritime Museum's lecture series will be held at 7 p.m. Thursdays, Jan 15-March 5 in the museum's Bay Room, 723 Second St. Admission is $10 per lecture and free for first mate level and above museum members. Information: 410-295-0104 or amaritime.org.

Annual MLK breakfast

Tickets are available for the 34th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Breakfast being held Monday, Jan. 19, at Anne Arundel Community College, 101 College Parkway in Arnold. For the first time, the guest speaker is a middle school student, Katherine Hernandez Marroquin. Doors open at 7:30 a.m. and the program begins at 8 a.m. in the David S. Jenkins Gymnasium. Attendees are asked to donate canned goods as part of a food drive sponsored the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. Event honors six community members who best represent the spirit of Dr. King and who also work to reinforce his message to the youth of the community.

Operation Paperback

This nonprofit collects used books nationwide and sends them to U.S. troops deployed overseas. Since 1999, more than 1 million books have been shipped to military personnel around the world.
