Best book: ‘Moonglow’ by Michael Chabon

A look at some of the 'Best of Baltimore' winners in the Activities and Arts category. (Ulysses Muñoz / Baltimore Sun)

Many memoirs are partly invented: Authors will imagine others' thoughts or re-create conversations that occurred before they were born. Michael Chabon, the Pulitzer Prize winner who grew up in Columbia, makes no bones about the hybrid nature of "Moonglow," his acclaimed 2016 book that's partly set in Baltimore. A finalist for a National Book Critics Circle Award, it meshes memories, family legends and half-truths into a story that weaves together his grandparents, the Holocaust and the Nazi rocket scientist Wernher von Braun.
