Hogan challenges Brown on income tax returns -- but hasn't released his

Republican gubernatorial candidate Hogan challenged rival Democrat Anthony G. Brown to release his income tax returns -- a step Hogan himself has not taken. Hogan issued that challenge in a news conference after Saturday night's third and final debate before the Nov. 4 general election. During the debate Brown pressed him to release a questionnaire he filled out for the National Rifle Association that earnedhim an A-minus grade from that group. When reporters asked him afterward whether he would do so, Hogan deflected the question by urging reporters to ask why Brown hasn't disclosed his returns. Brown has said he believes the financial disclosures he files with the state each year provide sufficient information. Hogan has refused a request from the Associated Press for his returns and as a private citizen is under no obligation to file a disclosure form. A spokesman for Hogan later said he was not sure whether the candidate would now release his return now that he has called on Brown to do so.
