Grammy nominees, Kobe Bryant and Tim Cooke are having an awesome St. Nick's Day

If you stepped into something unexpected today, here's hoping it was related to St. Nicholas Day and not a irresponsible pet owner. Millions of children (and some freaky adults) are finding candy and other assorted junk stuffed into their shoes this morning in one of the more unsanitary Christmas traditions. And in keeping with the concept of finding free crap in your shoe, it seems like everyone's having an awesome day on the Internet!

Christmas may come early for Apple CEO Tim Cooke who could find out today whether a mess of Samsung phones are permanently placed on the naughty list, out of reach of U.S. consumers. He also got to hang out with Brian Williams and will be on TeeVee. Lakers star Kobe Bryant just scored his 30,000 point joining the elite ranks of Michael Jordan and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. And Frank Ocean, Fun, the Black Keys and Taylor Swift are among the pop stars who got nominated for Grammys! Everybody wins! Seriously, it's the Grammys, everybody wins.

However, putting damper on all this Christmas cheer, we're seeing an uptick in Mayan Apocalypse searches. Yes, nothing ruins Christmas quite like a Mayan Apocalypse so maybe we should celebrate St. Nicholas Day extra hardcore this year.

Why: This week we get to enjoy another DOUBLE ELIMINATION, because the show started with too many turkeys and now nothing can slow down the breakneck speed of televised dream-crushing -- not even Turkey Day itself. Each of the Top 6 Acts performed twice -- one "Unplugged" number and then something about Pepsi -- I think; they barely mentioned it! -- wherein the Actual Fans voted online to make song choice, costuming, staging, etc. decisions for the contestants.
