An important change to our breaking news alerts

Effective Sept. 1, the breaking news alerts you have been receiving by text message are being replaced by push notifications sent through our Baltimore Sun News Reader app, available for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, iPod and Android smartphones and tablets.

To continue receiving alerts, download the app and enable notifications by following the instructions below. If you prefer to receive alerts via email, breaking news email alerts are available through the signup page at baltimoresun.com/newsletters.

+ Go to your device's settings and tap on "Baltimore Sun"

+ Tap "Notifications", then tap the slider next to "Allow Notifications" so that it changes from white to green

Android

+ Notifications should be enabled by default. To check, open the app, tap the hamburger icon (three horizontal lines) in the upper left, tap "Settings" and look next to "Enable Notifications". If it says "ON" next to "Enable Notifications", notifications are enabled. If it says "OFF", tap the slider so that it changes to "ON".
