Second Week (June 4 & 6)

This week I worked on setting up a virtual environment to be able to construct a database of unclaimed property in the state of Maryland. To do this I worked with Patrick to setup Virtual Box, installing Fedora as an operating system. However, we ran into some issues with this process and ended up running Fedora off of a thumb drive instead.

After going through the process of setting up a suitable work environment I began the intitial steps of converting the Excel spreadsheet that we had scraped and cleaned up, into an interactive database where users can search by keywords.

I learned a lot this week about the workflow required to prepare a database to be integrated into The Sun's cms in a more user-friendly format. Next week I'll be continuing to work on this project so that it is fully-functional and has an interface that is easy to use and understand.
