Schools information in light of the shooting of a 13-year-old boy this morning outside Benjamin Tasker Middle School in Bowie.

Baltimore City

all outdoor activities have been moved inside;

all afternoon pre-kindergarten programs have been canceled;

all after-school athletic events have been canceled;

increased security at schools.

Baltimore County

Increased security at schools, which means:

police patrol units will be supplemented by other units;

plainclothes detectives in unmarked cars will have schools under surveillance;

the aviation unit will expand coverage;

K-9 units will be available if needed.

Howard County

Public schools are on modified lockdown, which means:

exterior doors have been locked;

no outdoor recess, physical education or outdoor activities;

normal activity within the school;

morning kindergarten will dismiss as usual; afternoon kindergarten and afternoon special education preschool have been canceled.

mentorships and work study have been canceled; early release students will be released as usual;

elementary and middle school aftercare provided by Columbia Association and Department of Recreation and Parks will be held as usual;

all other after-school activities have been canceled;

police officers will be at the schools to assist with dismissal.

Anne Arundel County

increased security at schools;

afternoon kindergarten has been canceled;

all after-school activities have been canceled;

all evening high school classes have been canceled;

after-school child care will be provided inside the schools.

Prince George's County

students will remain indoors;

afternoon pre-kindergarten has been canceled;

all after-school activities have been canceled.

Montgomery County

Public schools are under "code blue" security alert, which means:

no outside recess;

children were not allowed outside for lunch;

afternoon kindergarten has been canceled.
