Despite Zach Britton’s impressive save streak, which continued with two more successful conversions last week, it was obvious that he was not as sharp as usual and he was placed on the disabled list on Sunday with soreness in his left forearm. Sounds scary, but Buck Showalter portrayed the decision to sit Britton down for at least 10 days as precautionary. The Orioles are fortunate to have Brad Brach pitching very well and he’ll probably move into the closer role. The rest of the short relief crew also pitched well, but that isn’t reflected in the pen’s 5.29 combined ERA for the week. Relievers combined to give up 10 earned runs in 17 innings, but most of those runs came in the bullpen blowup on Tuesday in Boston.
