Luke Broadwater

Luke Broadwater got his start in journalism at age 9, when he scored an interview with Colts great Johnny Unitas. Since then, he’s won more than a dozen journalism awards, including for investigative reporting, government reporting and feature writing.

He covered Baltimore's City Hall, its police and courts for more than a decade before moving to the Maryland government beat in 2018.

Among his most impactful stories have been an investigation into Baltimore's error-prone speed cameras, which resulted in the machines being shut down; tough coverage of a taxpayer-subsidized waterfront development that forced open previously closed-door meetings; and an expose into casino funding that led to $4.4 billion more going toward Maryland's public school students.

Luke was part of The Sun's breaking news team selected as finalists for the Pulitzer Prize in 2016 for coverage of the unrest that followed the death of Freddie Gray.

He is a 2002 graduate of Ithaca College.
