'House of Cards' renewed for a 4th season by Netflix

UPDATES with Netflix confirmation: Good news for "House of Cards" fans: The Maryland-made series has been renewed for a fourth season on Netflix.

The announcement was made in a tweet from the show's official Twitter account, saying, “I will leave a legacy. #Underwood2016.”

It included an image that said: “SEASON 4 COMING 2016.”

Calls and emails to Netflix aimed at finding out if they series would return to Maryland for production of Season 4 were not immediately returned Thursday night.

The normal cycle of production is to start in the summer, finish at the end of December and drop online in February.

The season ended on the kind of cliffhanger that made a fourth season seem likely, but the finances between Media Rights Capital, the producer of the series, and Netflix, which distributes it, are among the most complicated I have ever encountered.

And figuring heavily into the bottom-line accounting of the series last year was how much the State of Maryland was willing to offer in incentives. That figure has yet to be determined in the legislature.

UPDATE: Netflix confirmed the renewal late Thursday night with a text reply to Sun inquiries.
