Ryan Mallett can be a solid backup

Mallett has many of the tools of effective quarterbacks, but his accuracy and decision-making -- arguably the two most important tools -- have been lacking during training camp workouts. Thursday, against a defense that wasn't his own, Mallett made smart choices and led effectively. He completed 11 of 15 passes, threw for a touchdown and was intercepted on a play in which tight end Darren Waller takes the blame. Sure, if Flacco goes down again, Mallett probably won't save the season. But if he's needed in spot duty, Ravens fans don't need to cringe.
