Ruppersberger to speak at opening of lacrosse benefit for Wounded Warrior Project

Rep. C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger has a lot on his mind. As the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, he's had to defend the secret domestic surveillance program revealed to British Newspaper The Guardian by a former Maryland resident. And he's considering a run for governor.

But on Thursday, he'll take time out for an event that, according to his news release, combines two "life-long passions: serving our troops and lacrosse." He'll be there for the start of a 24-hour lacrosse game, featuring players ranging from 8 years old to 71, on Thursday morning at the McDonogh School.

Proceeds of the "Shoot-Out for Soldiers" go to the Wounder Warrior Project. Last year, the inaugural game raised $120,000 and included a local veteran and double amputee taking his first public steps on new prosthetics.

Ruppersberger played lacrosse at the University of Maryland.

You can head to the event's website to learn more of the specifics. Looks like there will be "fresh BBQ" and Paul Rabil, so it's shaping up pretty nicely.
