Much to the chagrin of my boss, I recently posted about my lack of organizational skills. After posting, I walked home considering what baked good I might whip up to help him forget about my admission, and while Rolodexing my favorite food websites in my head, a thought burst through my brain clouds: If I can steal recipes from the Internet, why can't I steal some organization?
I asked Google for wedding excel spreadsheets, and spent twenty minutes scrolling through hundreds of hits. I settled on the "DIY" version of A Practical Wedding's downloadable spread sheets, and now everything in my world is much further away from pure, unadulterated panic.
Though I (obviously) forgot to take the sheets to a meeting at our venue, I knew exactly what information I needed to get, and can now make a plan. The spreadsheet comes loaded with everything you didn't know you needed to know about planning a wedding on your own. Our amazing food vendor, Sacha's, also provides tables, chairs, linens, glasses, flowers, and staff, and being able to check all of those things off as complete made breathing a lot easier.
I'm using my secret Excel weapon to coordinate drop off times with the other vendors (lighting guy, photo booth, band) and am reaching out to family and friends to assist with set up. (Beware… if we know each other your name may already be in a task cell.)
Though I was on the verge of hiring a wedding planner, finding this gem has re-energized me, and I think we can pull this thing off. If you're feeling overwhelmed I highly recommend you visti APW and take a look at their many organizational tools. Wedding planners are obviously the most stress-free way to go, but if you're working with a tight budget, these free downloads will make a huge difference.
We still have a ton of planning to fit into the next two months, but now that my compass is realigned, it all seems possible. And with that part of my life in order, now I might have time to make good on my brownie points.
