Customers who dined at P.F. Chang's China Bistro at the Inner Harbor during two months this spring may be victims of debit and credit card data theft, the Scottsdale-based chain warned Monday in an announcement of a widespread security breach at 33 U.S. locations.

PF. Chang's was alerted to a possible breach on June 10 by the U.S. Secret Service and launched a still-ongoing investigation. The company said it had the problem contained by the next day and has been processing credit and debit cards securely since June 11.


Chang's said its card processing system was breached. Card numbers, cardholders' names and expiration dates may have been stolen, the company said.

"However, we have not determined that any specific cardholder's credit or debit card data was stolen by the intruder," the company's statement said.

The restaurant at 600 E. Pratt Street in downtown Baltimore is the only Maryland location affected, Chang's said. Data could have been stolen from cards at that location between April 10 and June 11.

The chain's Pei Wei restaurants were not affected by the breach.

Chang's put out a list of 33 restaurant locations and the time frame in which data may have been stolen from each. The company is encouraging customers to check online for updates and information on identity protection services being offered.

"We are committed to providing support and resources, including complimentary identity protection services, for all guests that may potentially be affected by the security compromise," CEO Rick Federico said in the announcement.

Anyone who suspects fraudulent activity on a credit or debit card should report it to the card company or bank.

Chang's said it will offer customers free identity protection through AllClear Secure for the next 12 months and set up a confidential hot line to answer questions, available Monday through Saturday at 1-877-412-7152.
