Office Depot launches rewards program

Office Depot has launched a new customer rewards program, with memberships tailored to consumers, teachers and local businesses.

Members can rack up points by buying ink, toner, paper and copy shop services, by recycling ink and toner cartridges at the store and by joining the program and filling out an online member profile.

For every 1,000 points, shoppers get rewards certificates that are issued monthly and can be retrieved from the store website.

Shoppers who spend $200 or more in a quarter become "choice members," and can earn extra points on home, office and school supplies, computer accessories, furniture and other products.

Most consumers are enrolled in an average of seven loyalty programs, according to the 2013 Maritz Loyalty Report. But more than half the members drop at least one program a year because of slow reward accumulation.

Bob Moore, Office Depot's chief marketing and merchandising officer, said the Boca Raton-based retailer wanted to avoid those pitfalls by allowing shoppers to personalize their rewards.

Shoppers who want to join can sign up at www.officedepotrewards.com.
