Nouveau Home & Interior Design, formerly called Nouveau Contemporary Goods, has moved into its new home in Baltimore's Mount Vernon neighborhood.
The home furnishings store relocated from Belvedere Square to the former Chase Brexton building at 10 W. Eager St., next door to City Cafe restaurant.
Nouveau co-owner Steve Appel said the move represents a return to the retailer's roots. The store started on North Charles Street and had been in Belvedere Square since 2004.
Shoppers will find furniture, accessories, vintage items such as fans, radios and glassware from the 1940s and 1950s, wall art and accessories such as watches.
"We are excited to move back downtown and expand our customer base," and draw from new city dwellers moving into apartments and condos, Appel said.
Co-owner Lee Whitehead said the retailer hopes to capitalize on the trend toward urban living.
"It makes perfect sense for us to be here, near the popular City Café and other growing downtown businesses," Whitehead said.
Whitehead and Appel, who are childhood friends, began the business as a boutique in Savage Mill in Howard County in 1986 before expanding it to a full store on North Charles a year later.
Nouveau, which also offers design services, will be open seven days a weeks with some evening hours.
