Dollar General will open in Cockeysville on Saturday.
The store at 558 Cranbrook Road will give away $10 Dollar General gift cards to the first 50 shoppers who stop in for the 8 a.m. opening. The first 200 customers will get Dollar General tote bags.
"Dollar General is committed to delivering a pleasant shopping experience that includes a convenient location, a wide assortment of merchandise and great prices on quality products," Dan Nieser, Dollar General's senior vice president of real estate and store development, said in the retailer's announcement.
The discounter, which operates 21 stores in the Baltimore area, focuses on food, housewares, seasonal items, cleaning supplies, health and beauty products and some apparel, both national and private brands.
The chain's rivals, Dollar Tree Inc. and Family Dollar Stores Inc., had announced an $8.5 billion merger in July that would create North America's biggest dollar store chain.
