Did you wake up this morning to the ring of your smartphone?
According to a survey by the National Retail Federation, mobile phones and tablets have replaced alarm clocks, radios and other gadgets in our lives for some consumers.
I was intrigued to see that smartphones had also replaced GPS units for more than half of those surveyed and digital cameras for nearly half, since presumably dedicated versions of those products would have more bells and whistles.
But I guess the fact that "always in my pocket" attitude most people have about cell phones would give them precendence in our lives.
Personally, I have used my phone to listen to the radio and music after my old-school boombox broke, but I don't like the way it drains the battery. And I'm such a slow adopter of new technology that I never got around to buying a GPS before I got a phone with one built in. But I rely on it as a morning alarm clock because I worry that the battery would die before I woke up.
Have you noticed that your mobile phone taken the place of other gadgets in your life?
