Comings and goings from Day 9 of Orioles spring training camp

SARASOTA, Fla. -- The Orioles are on the field doing some pre-workout stretching as I type.  It looks like we're going to avoid the thunderstorms that were predicted to go through the Sarasota area.

The weather's been incredible here so far -- knock on wood.

I talked a little bit to Orioles non-roster invitee Nick Johnson this morning. Everyone says if Johnson can stay healthy, he has a really good shot of making this team. He would be a nice compliment to Chris Davis at first and Orioles executive vice president of baseball operations Dan Duquette likes his track record of having a good on-base percentage.

It's obviously still early here in camp, but Johnson said his wrist, which has had four surgeries in the last four years, is feeling good.

By comparison, Johnson said just taking batting practice was painful last year. He tried wearing a brace and everything, but couldn't dodge the pain. I'll have a story on Johnson within the next few days.

Left-hander Zach Britton will throw again today as part of his throwing progression for left shoulder inflammation. We'll see how that goes. Right-hander Jim Johnson has two more full-mound sessions as part of his trunk stabilization program.

We'll have a really cool video feature hitting the BaltimoreSun.com website in a few. Our photojournalist, Karl Merton Ferron was able to tape a small camera onto the cap bill of Orioles centerfielder Adam Jones and tape him during outfield drills yesterday. It gives a nice point-of-view perspective and had also shows a lot of Jones' personality in the field.
