Good morning and welcome to The Sun's daily online trends column. Every morning we'll try to understand the deranged hive mind that is the Internet and figure out what people are interested in. Formerly an internal memo for just Sun staffers, we've decided to share. So without further ado ...

How does it feel to get "Batch Slapped" Baltimore? The Baltimore Ravens are reeling after a heart-breaking loss to the hated Pittsburgh Steelers. And the Steelers' unlikely savior, backup quarterback Charlie Batch, is getting much-deserved attention on Google and Twitter this morning. After Joe Flacco's performance maybe we should have a third string quarterback (apparently we don't have one)? And thanks to actor Josh Charles for coining the term "Batch Slapped." Use it well Baltimore.

Because we have no towels to cry into we can take solace in the fact that his holiness the Pope is on Twitter. He hasn't tweeted any spiritual salves  just yet, but maybe he's just planning ahead for that five-hour standoff with the Baltimore police. Meanwhile, two young pop stars may or may not be in love. I know it's early for math, but Taylor Swift + Harry Styles (a.k.a. one of the boys from One Direction) = Haylor.

Other loose ends on the Interwebs include VEEP's Julia Louis-Dreyfus is back in Bmore, Bob Costas pissed people off because he said guns are dangerous and Christmas (who knew!) continues to be quite popular on most social media platforms.

Charlie Batch

Why: In a season where the Ravens have consistently found ways to win, regardless of how much they struggled and how bleak things looked, they discovered a deflating way to lose. They allowed Charlie Batch, a third-string, soon-to-be 38-year-old quarterback, to dig his team out of a fourth quarter deficit and drive the Steelers down the field in the final minutes to set up the game-winning score. [The Baltimore Sun]

Why: It's official. Pope Benedict's handle on Twitter will be @pontifex. He already has 1.2 billion "followers" in the standard sense of the word but next week he will have another type when he enters what for any 85-year old is the brave new world of Twitter. [Reuters]

Haylor (Taylor Swift, Harry Styles)

Why: The One Direction cutie was spotted hanging out with rumored new gal pal Taylor Swift today at the Central Park Zoo in New York City, and their company made sure to catch the attention of numerous adoring fans who took to Twitter to share their findings. [E! Online]
