You are invited to see for yourself why Park has earned its outstanding reputation for academic excellence and innovation.
Walk into an Upper School math classroom and observe students working with original texts written by Park teachers. These books introduce students to the way mathematicians think, question, and reason. They guide students to become better problem solvers by encouraging and honoring creativity and conjecture, two important concepts missing from most high school texts.
Hear 2008 Newbery Medalist and Lower School librarian, Laura Amy Schlitz, enchant children with her stories. Her award-winning book, Good Masters! Sweet Ladies!, a series of monologues, was originally written for Laura’s fifth grade students to perform as part of their year-long study of the medieval period.
Watch Middle Schoolers work as a team, combining physical activity, personal discipline, and problem solving as they tackle Park’s Appalachian Challenge course, a nationally recognized outdoor education program. The course takes full advantage of the woods, pond, and stream on Park’s campus and is an integral part of the curriculum. A fundamental element of the program is that each challenge is entirely designed, constructed, maintained, and taught by students.
Listen to the student jazz ensemble rehearse for a performance. Admire the skill of aspiring artists as they paint, sculpt, and carve. Travel with young citizens to East Baltimore to tutor children and adults at the Esperanza Center or work on Park’s 12th Habitat for Humanity house, for which they have raised over $1 million. Taste fresh produce from the campus gardens or sweeten your tea with honey from the Park School hives. Join the cheering crowds at a Bruins game – there are 54 teams to choose from. (Park’s high school athletes have been recognized with local honors and are recruited to play on collegiate teams.)
