Jeff Barker has been a Baltimore Sun sports writer since 2004, handling stories and projects including Terrapins basketball, the NFL, sports economics, congressional steroids hearings and youth coaches who run afoul of the law. Don Markus returns this season as a regular contributor to Tracking the Terps and The Toy Department. After a 2 1/2-year assignment in news, where he covered the killing of Virginia women's lacrosse player Yeardley Love, Markus came back to the sports department in mid-August. He returned to the Navy football beat and now covers outdoors. He was the Maryland basketball beat writer for more than a decade as well as covering golf and the NBA. Matt Bracken graduated from the University of Michigan in 2005, earned a master's degree in new media journalism from Northwestern University in 2006, and spent the first 11 months of his career as an online producer / videographer / blogger at the Arizona Daily Star in Tucson.
