May: Weekend of May 4-6 (Maryland Film Festival, Kinetic Sculpture Race, FlowerMart, Towsontown Spring Festival

Rest up, make sure to wear comfortable shoes and map out your routes carefully. There may be no other Baltimore weekend more jam-packed with can’t-miss things to dFor starters, the Maryland Film Festival, Baltimore’s annual cinematic bacchanal, a celebration of movies you’ll most likely never see anywhere else, runs May 2-6 at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Parkway, 5 W. North Ave., and environs (ticket prices to come, mdfilmfest.com). On May 4-5, the fancy hats, vibrant blossoms and savory lemon sticks of the FlowerMart, Baltimore’s most genteel tradition, return to Mount Vernon (free, flowermartmd.org). The morning of May 5, the weird, wacky and wonderful Kinetic Sculpture Race, with dozens of homemade pedal-powered contraptions winding their way through Baltimore’s neighborhoods (as well as the harbor), begins at 11 a.m. at the American Visionary Art Museum, 800 Key Hwy. (free, kineticbaltimore.com). And on May 5-6, one of Baltimore County’s biggest community gatherings comes to Towson’s Courthouse Square and surroundings, with the 51st Towsontown Spring Festival (towsontownfestival.com).
