Light your porch blue in support of Autism Awareness

April 2 is Autism Awareness Day – put a blue lightbulb in your porch light and keep it shining all night in support of Autism Awareness.

Havre de Grace Elks Lodge is having a self-serve waffle breakfast on Sunday, March 30 from 8 to 11 a.m. $6 per person for waffles with various toppings, link sausage, juices and coffee.

Curves of Havre de Grace is having its annual food drive to help replenish local food pantries, namely Ray of Hope, Cecil County; Grace Place, Havre de Grace; and Martha's Meal, Aberdeen. Non-perishable food items can be dropped off at Curves, 1037 Pulaski Highway, Havre de Grace, 410-939-3555, starting through March 31, from 8 to 11 a.m. and 3:30 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday. Donating a bag of groceries not only helps "feed the need," it also provides the opportunity to join Curves with without a service fee.


There will be a quarter auction and dinner at the Havre de Grace Elks Club Saturday. Doors open at 6 p.m. with the first auction at 7 p.m. Cost is $10 and includes dinner and two paddles. Extra paddles are available. Call 410-939-9800 for details.

The Past and Present Matrons and Patrons Association of Northern Maryland – Order of the Eastern Star held its quarterly meeting at Chiapparelli's Restaurant with 19 members and guests present. President Sister Brenda Compher welcomed Past Grand Matron Sister Marianne Pryer; Past Grand Patrons Brother Ron Mathias and Tom Pryer; Grand Officers Brother Edsal Crouse, Associate Grand Patron and Sister Diane Smith Associate Grand Conductress; Grand Representatives Sister Becky Gjerdahl and Brother Jerry Phillips; Worthy Matrons Sister Susie Passwaters and Catherine Phillips and Worthy Patron Jerry Phillips. Victory Chapter 40 was the host chapter and presented programs in honor of St. Patrick's Day. Other members present included those from Havre de Grace Chapter 27, including Carolyn Mathias and I; from Victory 40 in Aberdeen, Sister Sandy Matthews and Rosalie Monath and Brother Ed Matthews; and from Harford 83 in Bel Air included Sisters Sister's Ellen Crouse and Jean Penley.
