It’s fireworks and “Touch a Truck Night” Friday at the Bowie Baysox as the team shows its appreciation for its youngest fans.
The kids can learn about service, construction and emergency vehicles from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. during the biggest such event in the area. Also, the first 750 fans ages 3 to 12 through the main stadium gates after 5 p.m. receive a bobblehead of the Baysox mascot Louie.
And for the grownups, as part of Home Improvement Weekend at the Baysox, there will be home renovation experts on hand to consult about your next home project. And after the game, there will be fireworks.

Families are invited to learn about Spa Creek at the Kids on the Creek event, Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Truxtun Park boat ramp in Annapolis. There will be free boat rides for kids 5 and older, free food and drink, a scavenger hunt with prizes, fish identification and native plants. Pre-register at spacreek.net and save time.
What is an Insectival? It is an insect festival! Annmarie Gardens in Solomons Island will be buggy Sunday from noon to 4 p.m., as the sculpture garden and arts center celebrates all things insect. There will be games, art activities, bug hunts and show-and-tell fun. Each guest will receive a punch pass that will guide them through various activities, ending with a prize and fun photo opportunities. Members are free; all others are $5. Bring the kids and find out what’s growing in Mr. Paca’s garden on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and then take a 40-minute trip on the Harbor Queen in the afternoon. Explore the gardens at the William Paca House at 186 Prince George St. in Annapolis, and plant a seed to take home. Visit the beehive to learn about pollination. Can your tweens solve puzzles and find clues with ease? Then this is the event for them.
There is an “escape room” at the Anne Arundel County Public Library in Maryland City, and you have only minutes to solve the puzzles and get out. It all begins at 2 p.m., but call 301-725-2390 for available time slots. The library is located at 3501 Russett Common in Laurel.
And this Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Severn branch of the library, grade-schoolers can work together to find the clues to open a slime box at Slimed at School. The library is located at 2624 Annapolis Road.
