Benjamin Tasker Middle School lockdown lifted after former student found with BB gun

A former Benjamin Tasker Middle School student was arrested outside the school Wednesday after police found a BB gun in his bag.

Prince George’s County Public School’s spokesman John White said at 2 p.m. a former student came to the school and security staff searched the child.

They found a BB gun in his backpack, White said, and contacted county police who took the child into custody.

Everything happened outside of the school, White said. The school was placed on a short lockdown.

In 2002 a 13-year-old boy was shot outside Benjamin Tasker Middle School. He was the youngest victim of the D.C. sniper, according to a story in the New York Times, and survived being shot in the chest.
