Job: State government reporter

The Baltimore Sun is seeking a State Government Reporter. This journalist covers Maryland state government and politics and provides daily and enterprise coverage for baltimoresun.com and The Baltimore Sun. This position will involve the reporter breaking state and national news, as well as investigating politicians, candidates and government officials to hold them accountable. The goal is providing stimulating journalism that meets our public service mission and garners new readers. This reporter will lead our coverage of statewide campaigns in 2022, including an open seat for governor and a U.S. Senate seat. The need to shine The Sun’s light on state government has never been greater than now, when the coronavirus pandemic has put people, meetings and court hearings behind closed doors. This is the beat that produced our coverage of the governor’s chief of staff working out a deal to transfer from another part of state government, resulting in his departure from his new job and facing criminal charges, as well as a new state law to address the problems our coverage revealed.
