Cherilyn "Cher" Sarkisian was just 16 when she met record producer Salvatore "Sonny" Bono, 11 years her senior, in a Los Angeles coffeeshop in 1962. The two eventually became pop and TV stars. Despite Top 10 ratings for their self-titled TV show, the marriage of Sonny and Cher fell apart, ending with a very public divorce in 1975. After attempts at solo TV shows (hers did well; his, not so good), they reunited on TV until splitting for good in 1977. Cher stayed in entertainment, while Sonny pursued politics. She wound up with an Oscar, a Grammy, an Emmy, three Golden Globes and a People's Choice Award; he wound in Congress, representing the 44th district of California.
