Anton Yelchin Heading From 'Trek' to 'Terminator'

Fresh from playing Young Chekov in J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" reboot, Anton Yelchin may play futuristic impregnator Kyle Reese in McG's "Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Yelchin is in negotiations (not to be confused with "final negotiations") to play Reese in the Warner Bros. distributed fourth "Terminator" film.

This will, of course, send "Terminator" obsessives back to their calculators to figure out the age difference between Yelchin and Christian Bale, who will be playing John Connor in the sequel.

In the 1984 James Cameron original, the Reese character was sent back from the future to protect Linda Hamilton's Sarah Connor, fathering her child, who would grow up to be his friend and savior of humanity John Connor.

The Reese Boys -- including brother Derek -- also played a major role in FOX's midseason drama "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles."

The trade paper says that in the new film, the younger Reese, one of the survivors of Judgment Day, befriends a Terminator cyborg played by Sam Worthington.

The trade paper says that with production on "Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins" scheduled to start in May, Paul Haggis is in negotiations to come in and do a polish on the script.

In addition to his upcoming "Star Trek" turn, Yelchin's credits include "Charlie Bartlett," "Alpha Dog" and the Showtime drama "Huff."
