Feb. 12: Three out of four ain't bad

An otherwise flawlessly executed opening ceremony at the Winter Olympics hit a rather large snag at the worst possible moment: When it came time to light the Olympic cauldron, one of the supporting arms failed to rise out of the floor. <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PECLB002095" title="Paulina Gretzky" href="/topic/entertainment/paulina-gretzky-PECLB002095.topic">Wayne Gretzky</a>, <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PESPT005338" title="Steve Nash" href="/topic/sports/basketball/steve-nash-PESPT005338.topic">Steve Nash</a> and their fellow torch-bearers eventually went ahead and lit the flame, but the resulting awkward visual (and awkward commentary from NBC hosts <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PECLB001152" title="Bob Costas" href="/topic/entertainment/bob-costas-PECLB001152.topic">Bob Costas</a> and <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PECLB002940" title="Matt Lauer" href="/topic/arts-culture/mass-media/news-media/matt-lauer-PECLB002940.topic">Matt Lauer</a>) marred the moment somewhat.<br>

Wayne Gretzky, Steve Nash and their fellow torch-bearers eventually went ahead and lit the flame, but the resulting awkward visual (and awkward commentary from NBC hosts Bob Costas and Matt Lauer) marred the moment somewhat.
