The manufactured pop tart: 'The X Factor'

"X Factor" was supposed to blow "Idol" out of the water and dominate the ratings. It didn't. That's because if "Idol" is Whitney, "X Factor" is Britney -- a decent voice puffed up by a team of producers, songwriters and promoters. It's heavy on the hype, not so great on the delivery. There's nothing there -- which is why it was canceled.
