FOX Is 'Smarter' Than Thursday Rivals

Fast National ratings for Thursday, July 24, 2008

A night of new shows on FOX carried the network to a ratings victory, although no network drew terribly impressive numbers.

FOX averaged a 4.9 rating/9 share in primetime, beating CBS, 4.5/8, for the night's No. 1 spot. ABC took third with a 3.0/5. NBC, 2.6/5, came in fourth, and The CW pulled down a 1.1/2.

In the adults 18-49 demographic, FOX's 2.2 rating led a pretty meager field. CBS took second in the key ad demo at 1.6, edging NBC's 1.5. ABC averaged 1.2 and The CW 0.7.

"Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?," 4.6/9, put FOX on top at 8 p.m. "Greatest American Dog" earned a 4.0/8 for CBS. "Last Comic Standing" drew a 2.6/5 for NBC, edging an "Ugly Betty" rerun on ABC. The CW got a 1.2/2 from "Smallville."

FOX held the lead at 9 p.m. with "So You Think You Can Dance," 5.2/9. A "CSI" rerun on CBS was close behind at 4.9/9. "Last Comic Standing" improved slightly to 2.9/5 in its second hour. "Grey's Anatomy" scored a 2.7/5 for ABC, and a "Supernatural" rerun fell a bit from its lead-in on The CW.
