Bonnie Hunt must be one persuasive woman. Because it's not every day that Joe Mantegna and Dennis Miller up and decide to co-star in a sitcom.
They'll do just that, however, in Hunt's latest foray into TV, a single-camera show in which she plays a divorced woman working as a detective. Lauren Tom ("King of the Hill") has also joined the cast.
Both Miller and Mantegna originally signed on as guest stars in the pilot, but Hunt eventually convinced them to stick around, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Mantegna, who starred on CBS' "Joan of Arcadia," will play Hunt's ex-husband, and Miller will play her therapist. Tom and Don Lake, Hunt's writing partner, will co-star.
Should it go to series, the show would be Miller's first regular work on a scripted TV series since his "Saturday Night Live" days. He starred in his seventh HBO comedy special, "All In," earlier this year and hosted a talk show on CNBC in 2004-05. His most recent acting gig was a stint on "Boston Public" in 2003.
Mantegna played Will Girardi, father of the God-seeing Joan (Amber Tamblyn), on "Joan of Arcadia," which ran from 2003-05. He's a frequent guest on "The Simpsons," voicing mobster Fat Tony, and recently appeared in "Nine Lives" and "The Kid & I."
Tom had a recurring part on Showtime's "Barbershop" last summer. Her credits also include "Bad Santa" and voice work on "Teen Titans" and "Kim Possible."Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
