The latest round of pilot casting has resulted in a host of actors, including Molly Shannon, Danny Comden, Jodi Lyn O'Keefe and Jennifer Esposito, landing jobs in comedy pilots.
Former "Saturday Night Live" star Shannon has taken a role in NBC's "The Mastersons of Manhattan." NBC has also added Bruce McGill to "Area 52" and Will Yun Lee to "The Bionic Woman," while Esposito, Comden, O'Keefe, Jayma Mays and Allison Munn have all joined ABC shows, the showbiz trade papers report.
"The Mastersons" is a comic soap revolving around two wealthy sisters, played by Shannon ("Talladega Nights," "Will & Grace") and Natasha Richardson.
In "Area 52," a comedy set at a secret government installation, McGill will play a general. The "Animal House" actor's recent credits include "Matchstick Men," "Cinderella Man" and "Elizabethtown."
On the drama side at NBC, Lee (FX's "Thief") will co-star with Michelle Ryan in the network's "Bionic Woman" remake.
At ABC, Comden ("I'm With Her") and O'Keefe ("Boston Legal," "The Evidence") have joined "The Call," a comedy about L.A. paramedics. John Francis Daley was previously cast in the show.
Mays, who had a recurring part on "Heroes" earlier this season, will star in "Nice Girls Don't Get the Corner Office," playing a young woman trying to make it in a cutthroat corporate culture. Mays also stars in "Epic Movie" and has guested on "Entourage" and "Ugly Betty."
Esposito, who starred in The WB's "Related" last season and guested on "Law & Order" earlier this year, will co-star in "Sam I Am" as the best friend of the lead character (yet to be cast), a young woman who has amnesia.
Three other ABC comedies have also added cast members. Munn ("What I Like About You") and T.J. Miller have signed on to "Carpoolers"; Stephen Rannazzisi ("Big Day") and Ava Gaudet ("Ugly Betty") have joined "See Jayne Run"; and Virginia Williams ("Monarch Cove," "How I Met Your Mother") has signed on to "Traveling in Packs."Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
