The comic movie that many people forget, director <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PECLB000106" title="Robert Altman" href="/topic/entertainment/robert-altman-PECLB000106.topic">Robert Altman</a> brought the Sailor (<a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PECLB003974" title="Robin Williams" href="/topic/entertainment/robin-williams-PECLB003974.topic">Robin Williams</a>), his girlfriend Olive Oyl (Shelley Duvall), his nemesis Bluto (<a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PEPLT006164" title="Paul Smith" href="/topic/politics/paul-smith-PEPLT006164.topic">Paul Smith</a>), and the rest of the gang to the big screen in 1980 as a musical. No, really. Created by Elzie Crisler Segar, Popeye debuted in the funny pages in 1929 and has appeared in pretty much every mode of entertainment since. The movie is definitely worth the watch if for no other reason than to see a giant-forearmed man punch a giant octopus repeatedly.
