Following in the footsteps of Abbott and Costello, more or less, Jeff Goldblum and Ed Begley Jr. play tabloid reporters who meet Frankenstein and the Wolfman in this horror parody. Instead of prompting fear in this case, the monsters inspire laughter ... at least for those in the movie. Transylvania has become an everytown, and its regular occupants are similarly watered down; thus, a female vampire ( Geena Davis) doesn't have quite the bite she might otherwise, and the Mummy doesn't look all that bad once unwrapped. The 1985 film was the brainchild of Rudy De Luca, previously a Mel Brooks collaborator, which should tell you a lot about its low scare quotient.
