The network has added seven episodes to its initial order of six for a total of 13. The show, an adaptation of the Australian hit of the same name, finished filming its first episode recently, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The show stars Molly Shannon ("Saturday Night Live") and Selma Blair ("Hellboy II") as the titular mother and daughter, whose relationship dominates all aspects of their respective lives. John Michael Higgins ("The Break-Up") and Mikey Day ("The Underground") also star.
"Kath & Kim" was ordered straight to series after Shannon and Blair were cast, but its initial pickup was for only six episodes. Now that the network has seen some of the finished product, it has committed to the extra shows, which brings the initial order to the industry standard of 13 for a new series.
Michelle Nader ("The King of Queens") wrote the pilot script for "Kath & Kim" and will executive produce with director Paul Feig ("The Office"), Rick McKenna and original series creators Gina Riley and Jane Turner. It's scheduled to premiere on Oct. 9 in the post-"Office" spot on Thursdays.
