Scooping up award nominations left and right, Jon Hamm has also scored a role in 20th Century Fox's remake of "The Day the Earth Stood Still."
Scott Derrickson ("The Exorcism of Emily Rose") is directing the remake of the 1951 Robert Wise sci-fi classic, which is set for a December 2008 release.
Keanu Reeves is taking on the Michael Rennie role as Klaatu, a humanoid alien who arrives on Earth with his indestructible robot Gort. Klaatu's mission is to warn the Earth's leaders that an alien race will annihilate them if they don't make up and play nice.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hamm will play Dr. Granier, a NASA official who recruit's Jennifer Connelly's Helen to investigate the alien arrival.
Hamm was a veteran journeyman actor with credits including "The Division" and "Providence" before AMC's "Mad Man" boosted his profile and earned him Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild nominations.
