Johnny Depp had encountered the writing of "gonzo" journalist Hunter S. Thompson before ("Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas"), and in this round, he channels the writer again in the semibiography of a reporter who goes to work in Puerto Rico.
His approach to the job inspires co-workers and eventually involves him with the wife (Amber Heard) of a developer (Aaron Eckhart) who may be the stuff of which a story is made. Richard Jenkins and Giovanni Ribisi also star for director-screenwriter Bruce Robinson. DVD extras: two "making-of" documentaries. ** (R: AS, P) (Also on Blu-ray and Movies on Demand)Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
