Iconic director Martin Scorsese turns a children's book (Brian Selznick's "The Invention of Hugo Cabret") into a Oscar-nominated, visually stunning fantasy about a youngster (Asa Butterfield) who continues his father's clock-maintenance work in a Paris train station in the early 1930s.
He also tries to finish a robot his dad was working on, with Chloe Moretz as his spirited partner in acquiring the necessary parts. Ben Kingsley and Jude Law also are in the fine cast, but every bit as vital to the result are cinematographer Robert Richardson and production designer Dante Ferretti.
