Dakota Fanning runs away with 'The Runaways'

Dakota Fanning loves rock 'n' roll too.

Fanning has signed on to play rocker Cherie Currie in the Joan Jett biopic "The Runaways," according to Variety. The move will team Fanning with "New Moon" co-star Kristen Stewart, who will play Jett, famous for "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" among numerous other hits. The film will cover Jett's early days in 1970s girlpunk band The Runaways, where she collaborated with such musical legends as Lita Ford. Currie was the band's lead singer.

No word yet on who will play Ford or fellow Runaways Sandy West, Micki Steele or Jackie Fox.

Fanning, 15, voiced the title character in "Coraline." In the "Twilight" sequel "New Moon," she'll play Jane, one of the guards of the Volturi, and ancient coven of Italian vampires. Jane may look young, but she's coldly evil, having the gift to cause others pain with her mind.
